Abstract

Zawia Amoura which is known as a small place dedicated to praying and memorizing the Quran in the city of Janzour-Libya is one of those places dating back to the Ottoman era. This place is distinguished by the presence of a founding board above the entrance, as it contained many architectural and artistic elements. Such panels have a distinctive character, in terms of the type of fonts, and the content of the subject implemented on it. This study aims to explain the foundational paintings as an Islamic element required by that stage of the Islamic era, and analyzing the foundational painting in terms of the type of calligraphy and the content of the writing

Because the foundational paintings are one of the significant characteristics of Islamic architecture, hence this study aims to show one of the most prominent elements of Islamic architecture to the scientific research area of interest besides enriching it for Arab and international libraries. We believe that the foundational painting of Zawia Amoura has great historical features. Therefore in this study, we will mainly rely on the descriptive and the analytical methodology together with the historical approach and field visit to describe and highlight the artistic elements contained in the foundational painting of Zawia Amoura. Due to the importance of such a painting board, we believe that conducting this study will contribute significantly to attract more attention to the department of antiquities and the historic cities protection authority.
